When You Do the |
Invocation |
The invocation is
a prayer or inspirational thought that sets the tone
for the meeting. There are two types of invocations:
(1) religious and (2) non-sectarian. Since
Toastmasters is a worldwide organization that
includes people from many religious groups, a
non-sectarian approach is required. |

Prior to the Meeting |
| |
Call the Toastmaster-of-the-Meeting one week ahead of
time to advise that you (or the substitute you have
provided) will be present at the meeting. |
Prepare a brief (no
more than 1-minute) invocation or inspirational thought.
Refrain from referring to a particular religious
philosophy; make your reference universal. |
Ideally, your thought
should be "spoken from the heart" rather than
read at the meeting. |

When You Do the |
Pledge |
Did you know that the pledge
has only three commas... and thus only three pauses? |
I pledge
allegiance to the flag
of the United States of America
and to the Republic for which it stands,
one Nation under God,
indivisible,
with liberty and justice for all. |
