FALL 2011 District 18 Conference Results

Saturday, November 19 - District 18 Fall Conference Results!
District 18 Toastmasters
Fellow Toastmasters,

Thank you to all who attended and helped with the District 18 Fall Conference this past Saturday; the conference was a great success due to your efforts and contributions. We did a superb job in representing the District for our First Vice President of Toastmasters International, George Yen. I think I speak for all of us when I say that I enjoyed his personal story of growth in leadership as he learned that sometimes in life you have to surrender with grace and then how he learned to apply the softer side of leadership in his re-growth in Toastmasters. It was great to interact with him and see that he is just like all of us and that we can strive to reach the pinnacles of leadership as long as we are willing to take the risk of that first step and not hesitate to keep moving forward and growing.

I hope that everyone was able to gain insight from the "Be-Do-Have" Educational Session, given by George Yen, and were inspired to take on new leadership roles in Toastmasters from seeing current leaders in their roles in the "Toastmasters and You" Panel Discussion.

Congratulations to MD Advanced Speakers Club for winning the John Christens award.

The District Evaluation and Humorous Speech Contests were intense competitions between some of our District's top speakers, a true struggle between the giants in the craft. I am glad to announce our winners:

Evaluation Contest
1st Place Brooke Grubb
2nd Place Preeti Harris
3rd Place Tiffany Heath

Humorous Speech Contest
1st Place Brooke Grubb -"Crazy in Love"
2nd Place Jonathan Dubin - "Never forget anyone or anything again"
3rd Place Victoria Harrison - "If you love your job you'll never have to work"

I invite you to help plan and attend the District 18 Spring Conference on May 19, which will be hosted by Division E at the Double Tree in Columbia. Tanya McMillian is our Conference Chair and is already assembling a great Conference team but can always use more volunteers. Send me an email if you're interested at comberiate.john@gmail.com.

Many thanks to all,

John Comberiate, LGET
