Alison Velez Lane

 

Alison Velez Lane, Esquire is an attorney, professional speaker, leadership coach and skills trainer. She has delivered keynote addresses, given lectures, served as an online instructor, led skills training sessions and facilitated workshops for government agencies, trade associations,  colleges and universities,  religious institutions and community organizations. Alison’s speaking and

training areas include Team Building, Leadership Excellence, Effective Public Speaking, Performance Coaching, Basic Communication Skills, Targeted Public Relations and Diversity in the Workplace.

 

Among Alison’s entrepreneurial milestones are partnership in a law firm and ownership of a leadership consulting company. As an employee, Lane has worked as an Assistant Professor and Coordinator of Legal Programs for Baltimore City College, Baltimore Area Director of Citizens Scholarship Foundation of America and an attorney for a major law firm.

Ms. Lane is a Past President of the Maryland Alliance of Black Women Attorneys. She has served as a Board Member of the Maryland Legal Services Corporation, United Way of Central Maryland, Greater Baltimore Urban League and Empowerment Temple A.M.E. Church, Baltimore.

Alison is a 1998 graduate of the prestigious Greater Baltimore Committee Leadership Program. Leadership awards bestowed upon Ms. Lane include designation as one of “Maryland’s Women" by The Daily Record, "40 Under 40 Business Leaders" by the Baltimore Business Journal, "25 Young Leaders to Watch" by The Baltimore Times, and an "African-American Achiever" by the The Baltimore Sun. The Washington Post, Baltimore Business Journal, Insights for Thursdays and Metropolitan Business Enterprise have published her legal advice and leadership coaching columns.  Alison was a Co-Founder of sisterwork, a networking forum for African-American working and professional women and has been a member of the National Association of Women Business Owners, American Women in Communications and the National Coalition of 100 Black Women.

Lane earned her Juris Doctor degree from the University of Pennsylvania where she received the William Hastie Award for Leadership. Bryn Mawr College conferred her with a Bachelor's Degree and various awards for academic achievement and leadership service.

Alison is completing work on a reference book,  "Dragon Boat Lessons: Teamwork Advances Leadership".

This workshop or speech is ideal for recently hired or promoted managers, corporate and foundation board chairs and trade association officers. Participants will develop skills and discover strategies for selecting a guiding theme, preparing a strategic plan, earning team member buy-in, seeking advice from predecessors, mentors and colleagues, coaching staff and volunteers and balancing “The Powers.”

This workshop or speech is designed for individuals who want a basic introduction to public speaking tools and techniques. Participants will learn how to put together the pieces of the “Public Speech” puzzle. Puzzles pieces include: Researching Your Audience, Understanding Your Purpose, Developing A Topic, Speech Writing, Rehearsing Your Speech and Setting the Stage for Effective Delivery.
